Cookbook Intro
My Intro:'
Dear Family and Friends,
I first became interested in creating and designing a cookbook to fullfill a college requirement. As an alternative to the course entitled Book Design I decided to design my own actual book rather than participate in yearbook production for a second semester. The desire to do so arose out of a personal belief that many of the recipes that are frequently used by my relatives (as well as myself) are terrific ones. From experience, (eating!) I can testify that my grandmothers, mother, father, aunts and uncles, brother, sister-in-law, husband and his folks; etc. have each created some amazing culinary accomplishments.
It is my hope that you and your families will enjoy this "compilation" of some of our family favorites. I would like to thank my aunt Mary-Ella for passing my name along to an organization that she belongs to that assists women in continuing education; the Hilton Head, SC based PEO chapter. Without the grant that I was able to receive I would not have been able to purchase the computer that I am currently typing on and, in turn, creating my layout. Prior to completion of the paperwork involved, I felt like a "cook without a kitchen" (no pun intended) and I am extremely grateful for her, and the chapter's subsequent support.
I would also like to thank my parents for the immeasurable degree of love and suport that they have shown me consistently throughout my lifetime. I have been truly blessed and am extremely grateful to you both. I would also like to dedicate my cookbook in loving memory of Nana; the greatest cook I have ever been lucky enough to have known, and also an extremely wonderful grandmother.

Life Balance
Project Description:
To design a product label for a product that is for "myself and myself alone," answering the question... What do you need to get through the semester?
Concept:
To invent an imaginary vitamin supplement that promised to provide the consumer (myself) with an adequate sense of balance in terms of life's obligations. To deliberately use a series of color schemes that remind me of relaxation and calm.

Project Description: Create a postcard with the theme "capture a moment in time" that relates to Photography using Photoshop.

Art Department Newsletter
Concept: To "mimic" certain typographic techniques of Kurt Schwitters; the Dadaist designer of Hanover, Germany whom I chose at random. Using the (likewise) random theme "push down while turning" I decided to couple Schwitters fondess of using arrows and interlaced text, images and rectangular bars with a "swirl" pattern. The typographer's name and the theme where chosen from a grab bag in class.

Poetry
"Eyes
Eyes Casting a spell over me is easy for you
All you have to do is be you
Neither frills nor makeup just you.
The magic is you; the light in your eyes.
Holds me to you.
Close your eyes and I Am lost
somewhere near non-existence.
In the place where nothing matters
Knowing only what it is like to be without you.
Open them and my life has meaning
because you see me
And I can see my reflection inside you."

Assignment: Create a piece in response to what happened. Guess my response was somewhat Rambo-esque.

Photo - File Lost
Unfortunate font substitution that day on the key word I was then going for.

Sometimes
Sometimes the point of a poster is just to draw attention unto itself. To get people to turn their head and uncover the real message being conveyed. I learned that from my awesome instructor. It did turn heads, I might add. Thanks, Mr. Ligon. You rock. Fortunately for me I was happily ensconsed in the VI when that was hung up on campus.
